Hello, My Friends! Seems I am always apologizing for my absence... Another tough year but I'm still pushing forward.

I really hope I've not lost you all but, I would deserve it for staying gone so long. I will be back and posting again within a day or so. I'll try to catch you up on a few things.

I've got more book reviews for you. I've even got a few to giveaway, if you're interested.

And, photos!!! All our little ones are growing up so fast it's just unbelievable.

Of course, my Son will always be a topic. He's doing great, handsome as ever AND.... well, you'll just have to wait for the rest. LOL!

Help Emily Fight Against Cancer

Some of you may know Shannon from Coupon Mommy of 3. This precious little girl is Shannon's 3 year old daughter Emily, who took ill on December 18, 2010. Symptomatically she looked like she had a bad stomach flu but several tests down the line the family received the shattering news that Emily has Stage IV cancer.

I know! I've been really missing for a while. I'm still around, just dealing with Doctors and lots of tests. I wanted to stop by and at least give you all a peek at mine and Ollie's trip to the Bahamas! Yep, you read that right! I won a contest on twitter that allowed us to spend 6 days and 5 nights at the beautiful Super Club Breezes in Nassau, Bahamas. We had a fabulous time! I will share more pictures and tell you a bit more about it a little later.

Isabelle's Fun Day in the Pool

For those of you who stop by from time to time, you know I just love my Great Nieces. Well, I love all my family but the babies are just too cute! I love to share my pictures of them so here's the latest of my Great Niece, Isabelle, in her pool. I got this cute pool for her for her 1st Birthday last year. We've been having beautiful, sunny days with temps in the low to mid 80's, just perfect for her to get out and play.

First Look at Baby Ellis!

That's our sweet little baby! Turns out that Mommie is only about 6 weeks along. She woke up to a little spotting yesterday and had to go to the doctor. They checked her over really good and said everything is fine. They did a vaginal ultrasound and got us this great picture of Baby Ellis and a more accurate idea of how far along she is. Our new due date is August 11th! What a difference that ultrasound made. I was thinking about how far away June is, now I have to wait even longer to meet my precious Baby Ellis.

Can't wait for you to get here, Baby Ellis!

I'm going to be a GRANDMA!

It's true! I am going to be a Grandma. I found out on December 2nd. My son, Cody, and his girlfriend, Heather, are an estimated 7 weeks pregnant. Her due date, right now, is June 22nd.

They are both really excited and so am I. I wasn't in a rush to be Grandma, but it's on it's way and I couldn't be more tickled.

Of course, I will keep you posted as we go along!

Beautiful Landscape

A few months ago, when Ollie and I were returning from visiting his Grandchildren and his eldest daughter, we drove past a beautiful home with this gorgeous landscaping.

We both loved it!

We've been planning on doing some landscaping at his home. We have to battle lots of rocks and clay every time we work in the yard and it gets to be a pain.

Erosion is a really big problem for us, too. Ollie's house is in the middle of a big hill.

My idea is to do something similar to the photo, but a larger scale. At the top would be a "natural looking" waterfall, leading into the "fake" creek bed. At the base, would be a small "pool" with a seating area.

Dance in the Rain

I think that most people, at some point in their life, have suffered a huge loss of someone they love so dearly. I know I have. I still mourn for my Grandma Bonnie. She died in 2002 after a long battle with cancer. She was such a wonderful, kind giving person. She touched the lives of so many. My entire family mourns her and cannot speak of her without tears.

When I came across a request for reviewers of Dance in the Rain by Angela Dockter-Harris, on The Product Review Place, and I read the description about her book, I contacted her immediately.

It is the most beneficial "tool" for dealing with grief that I have ever come across.

Dance in the Rain is a combination between a journal and a bible study.

The journal section can be personalized for anyone and any situation. I was really surprised at how in-depth the journal is. It covers:

"Remembering the Person I Love" - For the loss of a child, spouse, parent, grandparent, sibling, or friend. It includes special topics for the loss of an unborn child, infant, toddler, or young child. It also has a special tribute to the person who has passed away.

"This Gift I Leave You" - For the individual who is either facing death or who may be preparing for the future. In this section, they can dedicate the journal to a loved one(s). It could be very beneficial in helping talk about what is happening with your loved ones, your thoughts and feelings and help prepare them for what is to come. You can also share memories of days past, happy times, your wishes for their future, as well as, your final wishes.

"The Loss" - For the healing process, once your loved one is gone.

The Bible Study User's Guide is in two sections. The sections teach you to deal with loss through scripture. It leads you through the stages of death: grieving: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Each is from a biblical perspective.

"The bible study looks in-depth at sorrow and suffering, anger, acceptance, making amends, letting go, finding purpose, discovering a personal story from the pain and moving forward. Discusses how to find God in the midst of such pain.

The bible study also addresses concerns for people who believe in heaven and the concern of dealing with uncertainity of a loved ones eternal decision.

This book focuses on making amends, so it can be used in the loss of strained or broken relationships, not just death."

I think Dance in the Rain would be ideal for grief counseling. It touched my heart. Upon my completion of the book, I donated it to a family that just lost their child and I hope it brings them comfort.

Don't suffer alone or go through this time with fear and a heavy heart. Dance in the Rain can help you and your loved ones with this process. GOD is with you and HE does not want you to suffer nor does HE want you to be alone through tough times.

Each sunrise seems to bring fresh reasons for fear.

They're talking layoffs at work, slowdowns in the economy, flare-ups in the Middle East, turnovers at headquarters, downturns in the housing market, upswings in global warming. The plague of our day, terrorism, begins with the word terror. Fear, it seems, has taken up a hundred-year lease on the building next door and set up shop. Oversized and rude, fear herds us into a prison of unlocked doors. Wouldn't it be great to walk out?

Imagine your life, wholly untouched by angst. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? If you could hover a fear magnet over your heart and extract every last shaving of dread, insecurity, or doubt, what would remain? Envision a day, just one day, where you could trust more and fear less.

Can you imagine your life without fear?

My Review

Fear can be our most crippling emotion. If you think about it, we are raised to fear: disobeying our parents, change, trying new things........

In the book, Fearless by Max Lucado, he addresses fear from a biblical stand point. He reminds us that GOD and our faith in God will remove any and all our fears. It teaches through scripture, kindness and understanding. He speaks in a manner which anyone can understand and connect with.

Why are we in fear if we are believers in GOD? I found it to be most interesting when Max pointed out that Jesus tells us "do not be afraid" more than he tells us any other one thing.

I am a believer and am full of faith, but I fear. I am encouraged by Fearless. I hope to learn and grow in my faith so as to learn to let go of my fears. I want to "turn it over" to GOD and trust that I will be taken care of. It's hard to do. I hate to even say that but, if I'm being honest, I must. This world we live in seems to teach us to fear and pushes us away from faith.

As I read and reread the chapters of Fearless, I feel a renewal coming upon me. A new found strength. At points within the book, I feel ridiculous for my fears. I am ashamed of letting them empower me and, at times, control me.

I love reading books such as Fearless. I want to grow in my faith and I want to reach out to YOU.

Fearless is a wonderful read. Max addresses our fears and separates them into chapters, addressing not only why we are afraid, but individual fears such as:

Fear of Disappointing GOD
Fear of Not Protecting My Kids
Fear of Death
Fear of the After Life
Fear of where the World is Headed
...and several others.

Max also includes a discussion guide at the back of the book which has a "lesson" for each chapter, split into three groups: Examining, Exposing and Battling Fear

My life has been truly touched by Fearless. I plan to keep it by my side and refer to it often for guidance.

I encourage you to read it for yourself. I would love to know your response to it. It will change your life. I'm sure of it.

I was really excited to receive a copy of "Simply Salads" by Jennifer Chandler to review for my blog. I just love salads and I am always "game" to try new ones.

"Simply Salads" has over 100 salad recipes, sure to fit anyone's taste. Such a huge selection of recipes from simple to extravagant and each has a fabulous picture that will leave your mouth watering and your tummy grumbling.

Jennifer does an excellent job of explaining the "Salad Blends" so you know exactly what is in your salad. She also gives you a complete list of "must have" kitchen utensils and ingredients to make your salad preparation simple.

Motherland - A Time For Healing

Not long ago, I embarked on a challenge. I was to review an upcoming documentary, "Motherland", that features the lives of six women who were grieving the loss of a child. In the documentary, these women, in the deepest of mourning, were asked to participate in a journey to South Africa for 17 days and meet people of the country who experience losses on a daily basis to AIDS. The documentary was to look at the effects of the lives of the South Africans on these American women and to explore whether their grief could be "eased" by being in the presence of the South Africans.

My Review

I am going to admit that I hesitated about viewing this documentary. I was afraid that, with all the grief portrayed in the documentary, I would not be able to watch it, much less give a review. I was very surprised.

I connected with these six women and felt their pain throughout the documentary but you could see the healing that was coming from it. One even commented about how much it helped that she did not have to go through the days "pretending" that everything was okay and that she was moving on. With this group of women who shared the same grief, she was able to receive an understanding that most did not have. She could cry or talk about her child, knowing that everyone there knew what she meant and how she felt.

I think that is so important for the healing process.

The ladies connected through their grief and the grief of those they met in South Africa. They visited the schools and the children and interacted in the lives of these people who suffer such great loss of life DAILY.

What I liked best about "Motherland" was watching the progress and "break thrus" of these women. They were healing themselves and the others just by sharing the most horrendous of tragedies: the death of a child.

I strongly suggest to you, my reader, that you view this documentary. Particularly if you are going through a tragedy such as this. You may not be able to run off to South Africa, but knowing that there are others like you and that you can join together to grieve and heal, well, that's very important.

I thank GOD that I have my child and he is well. I cannot imagine the pain and grief that these women suffered but I do know that somehow life must go on. I think "Motherland" can help to show you how.

Yep, 4 years ago today, Ollie and I went out for the first time. We have been together ever since.

Not to be sappy, but, honestly, I never knew "this" existed. I had thought I was in love before, but it was nothing like it is with Ollie. He's my best friend.

It's really nice to be able to experience HAPPY. Outside of my son, Cody, I didn't know what happy was.

This is not the best of photos, but we haven't had any taken together. This picture is from our vacation two years ago. It was the week of the 4th of July. Super hot and then, we got rained on. Oh, and I whacked all my hair off. heehee

Anyway, Ollie is still away in Nebraska, working on that job that will last until April or longer, but he does get to come home next weekend so we can celebrate US then.

Today I celebrate Ollie, our life together now and in the future.

My Beautiful Redheads

Yesterday evening I attended a birthday bash for Jazmine, my great niece. She is 3 already! Where has it gone? It seems like yesterday she was just born. Now, she's 3 and has a little sister, Makayla, who is 7 months. These are my redheaded angels.

Tell me what you think:

For years, I was the only redhead in my family. My hair is more auburn but, as I have aged, it seems to be a little redder. I got my red hair from my Great Grandmother, Opal, and my Great Uncle, Paul, on my Mother's side. As my siblings and I got older and started having children, my oldest sister, Destie, had a redheaded boy, Kurt. He was the only redhead out of our children. Now, he has the two redheaded girls, Jazmine and Makayla. Here's a picture of them all together, with their Mommy, Angelica.

Such a beautiful, young family.

My Review:

I was totally amazed by this book. Never have I seen such a well written bible for children, nor have I seen one this well illustrated. As if that isn't enough, after each story, there's a note to parents about an activity to do with your child to teach them the lesson learned from the bible.

I have to tell you, as I read this book, I enjoyed it and I was very excited to think that my niece would be getting this as a gift from me. Jazmine will be 3 in September and I know that she will have a much better understanding of God and the people of the Old and New Testament after being introduced to this Bible. The language and illustrations are perfect for a small child's comprehension level.The lessons are on a level for the child to grasp, too.

I think that any family that is teaching their child/children about God should own this book.

The book also has a bonus DVD that contains an hour of Bible stories and features. It also has a dedication page at the beginning, perfect for gift giving.

Cody's Mud Pies

I can remember like it was yesterday......Cody loved to play in the mud. It was his favorite "toy".

Right after Cody's Dad and I divorced, my mother would babysit for me while I worked. Of course, he had my mother rapped around his little bitty fingers. Well, he still does. So, Cody would make my mother "build" him a mud puddle in her back yard. He would then still her pots and pans and commence to making mud pies. Now, you know, no mud pie is complete until its been taste tested. Cody never hesitated to try out his creations, but that wasn't quite enough. No....Grandma has to try them to. Best part, he could tell if you were pretending to eat it. So, Grandma ate mud pies.

Graphics aren't good but I think you get the point. When Cody was little, he had white hair with "Shirley Temple" ringlets all over his pretty little head. It has turned a light brown as he has gotten older.

He is my baby, even at 19 and he always will be.

Soon, I'm going to put together a little "journey" of photos of him for you to see and me to brag about. He was always, well, still is, the worst about getting his picture taken. He hates it. He would throw away all the order forms for his school pictures so I have NONE since elementary. I do have photos that his Dad would force him to take and a few snapshots, so I'll come up with something.

Cleaning House - GOD's Way

Received this e-mail and thought I would share it with you. It says a lot.

Last week I threw out WORRYING, it was getting old and in the way.
It kept me from being me; I couldn't do things God's way.

I threw out a book on MY PAST
(Didn't have time to read it anyway).
Replaced it with NEW GOALS, started reading it today.

I threw out HATE and BAD MEMORIES,
(Remember how I treasured them so)?
Got me a NEW PHILOSOPHY too, threw out the one from long ago.

Brought in some new books too, called I CAN, I WILL, and I MUST.
Threw out I might, I think and I ought.
WOW, you should've seen the dust.

I ran across an OLD FRIEND, I hadn't talked to in a while.
His name is GOD the Father, and I really like His style.
He helped me to do some cleaning and added some things Himself.
Like PRAYER, HOPE, FAITH and LOVE,
Yes... I placed them right on the shelf.

I picked up this special thing and placed it at the front door.
I FOUND IT- it's called PEACE. Nothing gets me down anymore.

Yes, I've got my house looking nice.
Looks good around the place.
For things like Worry and Trouble, there just isn't any space.

It's good to do a little house cleaning,
Get rid of the things on the shelf.
It sure makes things brighter; maybe you should TRY IT YOURSELF.

BE BLESSED AND BE A BLESSING TO SOMEONE ELSE!!!!

Pea Ridge National Military Park - Arkansas

Back before Ollie had to leave for his job in Nebraska, we had taken a trip to his daughter, Allison's, house in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Upon leaving, we decided to take the "scenic route" home.

We made a stop in a small town called Pea Ridge, Arkansas, which is the site of the Pea Ridge National Military Park. Here are a couple of pictures:

Now, for some of the official Pea Ridge National Military Park information. There is a lot more information available about this battle. It is considered to be the battle that saved Missouri for the Union.

Close to 23,000 soldiers fought at Pea Ridge on March 7 and 8, 1862. Many of the soldiers were from small towns and had never traveled more than twenty miles away from home before they joined the Army. They were farmers, merchants, teachers, mechanics, lawyers and countless other occupations before they enlisted.

At this early stage of the war, every man was a volunteer. Many joined for patriotic reasons, to preserve the embattled Union or to fight the "Second American Revolution", while others sought to escape the boredom of life in a small town. Some went with their heads filled with dreams of glory, while others simply did not want to be thought of as cowards. No one thought that this was to be a long or bloody war. They were wrong.

Throughout the years that have passed, the park has come into possession of diaries, letters and notes from the soldiers who fought here.

Pea Ridge was the only major Civil War battle in which Indian troops participated. Almost 1,000 Cherokee made up two Confederate regiments. Cherokee Stand Watie as their Colonel. The Indian Brigade joined McCulloch’s division.

Pea Ridge was a decisive victory for the Federal Army, even though the Federal forces at Pea Ridge were outnumbered and outgunned by the Confederates, and had been surprised by Van Dorn's bold moves. The Battle of Pea Ridge was one of the few times during the Civil War that a Federal Army would be at such a disadvantage.

The victory came down to one important factor - leadership. The outcome of the battle rested squarely upon the shoulders of Samuel Ryan Curtis. Curtis led his army capably and skillfully. His division and brigade commanders fought aggressively, took the initiative when it was required, and served their chief well. Thoughout the campaign, Curtis allowed his commanders enough flexibility to adapt to changing situations while still retaining control.

Each time that the Confederates appeared to gain the upper hand, a different leader stepped forward and made a bold counter move - Osterhaus & Davis at Leetown, Carr at the Elkhorn Tavern, Sigel on Welfley's knoll, Dodge on the Bentonville Detour and on the morning of the 7th.

Pea Ridge would be the proving ground for some of the Federal Army's most successful leaders. Curtis and Asboth would command military districts during the war. Sigel would command an Army. Osterhaus, Davis and Dodge would each command a Corps. Carr would command a cavalry Division. And then there was Sheridan. He would rise to be General-in-Chief of the United States Army, only the 4th man (after Washington, Grant & Sherman) in United States history to wear the four stars of a full General.

I love to correspond with the writers. Most put a lot of thought and work into their blogs, so I try to let them know that they are doing a good job and that their content is enjoyable.

In my free time, I like to relax, do a little reading or, maybe, take a nap.

As you know I homeschool -- If you could would you? Already do?
Do you agree with homeschooling?
I think it depends on the situation. Some children are "kept away" from the world and do not learn to socialize in "normal" everyday situations. I know a child now who is in this situation.
Other children, have no social problems. They are treated the same as other children, they participate in community activities, church, etc....they are well adjusted.

What is a talent you wished you had?
I wish I could draw. I love the work of artists and envy them that talent. Also, I write children's books and, if I could illustrate them myself, it would save a lot of many when publishing.

Not Feeling Serene.....CHEER ME UP!

My friends, I am not feeling SERENE today. Ann's question on meeting your soul mate, probably didn't help.

Here's our story, shortened, then you can read my "POUTY" story:

I met my Ollie four years ago. I was working as a security guard at Frito Lay and he was a overseeing a conveyor installation. We spoke for several weeks before he hinted at us going out. I was then moved to another location to do security and was a little sad that I didn't hear from him.

About a month later, the security company decided to put me back at Frito Lay and, lo and behold, he was still there. He immediately took my number and set up a date. We've been together ever since.

Ollie told me later that he wasn't sure I was serious about being around him but, after me leaving once and him missing out, he wasn't taking another chance.

Ollie and I are 18 years apart. I have been divorced for 16 years and, for him, its been 30, so we were both skeptical, but it works. We are so much alike and he is really good to me. Of course, I spoil him rotten. Neither of us has ever known a relationship such as ours.

We are so in love and loving every minute of it!

Now, my "Pouty" story:

Ollie returned from doing a job in Milwaukee, Wisconsin about 3 weeks ago and had to leave today to do a job in Schuyler, Nebraska. It is scheduled for 9 months, but, generally, these jobs go over. He'll get to come home a weekend each month, plus a week for Thanksgiving and about 3 weeks for Christmas.

Ollie is a self employed "site coordinator". Basically meaning that companies pay him to go to their job sites and oversee the work, keep them on budget and on schedule. It almost always means he'll be gone for weeks, months....this one, possibly will drag out to close to a year.

ME NO HAPPY!

This photos was taken at a local carnival. The cutie pie in the front of the carnival car is my son, Cody! He was 4. Now, he's 19. Back then, he had solid white hair with ringlets. It was beautiful. For my older readers, it looked like Shirley Temple's hair.

SUMMER FUN AT PAPPA'S HOUSE

A couple weekends back, Ollie and I got to "steal" two of his Grandbabies for the weekend. It was such a wonderful time.

They swam in the river and we roasted hotdogs and made some S'mores...Two days of absolute FUN!

Here's a pick of Ollie. You can't tell it, but he's roasting a hotdog. He was "wise" enough to use hickory wood for the fire, so it was so HOT you could barely stand it. He's laughing at himself for trying to roast the hotdog with his eyes closed to the heat.

Oh, you ever get the feeling that someone/thing is watching you? Well, it is at Ollie's. This is our "Deer" in the yard. He keeps a watch over us.

I am a SPIRIT JUMPER

This week, while doing my usual twittering and giveaway entries, I came across something a little different. Something that, a few weeks back, I had looked at, but did not "check into" because I was afraid. Well, maybe "afraid" isn't the "proper" word for it. I had looked at the blog, saw all the buttons on the side bar and convinced myself that I couldn't help. After all, what most charities need is money for research or for struggling families, you know, we have all seen it and have tried our best to GIVE. With my current situation, I knew it just wasn't possible for me to give.

I'm not sure what made me take a second look at Spirit Jump. I mean, sure, there was a giveaway, but I didn't HAVE to "get involved" with Spirit Jump to enter it, but I went back and looked. This time, I LOOKED!

Now, I know I have communicated with a lot of you through all the social medias and I am sure that some of you have formed opinions about me, as I have you. Some of you tell me how horrible I am.....okay, just kidding on that one, but I get feedback, same as you all do. What I hope you get from me, outside of me being a bit of a character or cut up or sometimes even "sweet", is that I am a very kind-hearted, soft-hearted, caring person. I literally would give my last dollar or the shirt off my back to anyone that I thought needed it more. I tell you this because it breaks my heart NOT to help people.

Back to my story. I know you think I'm drifting, but I am about to tie it in.

Upon LOOKING at Spirit Jump this time, something told me to "Just Do It". Sign up. I had read a little and it looked like maybe I could send a card or e-mail, something simple. I CAN DO THIS! I sent off an e-mail and here is what it said:

I would like to help you in any way that I can. I don't have much in the way of money, but I have a HUGE heart.

Within a very short time, I received a response back thanking me for joining. They sent me all the information I needed to get started and walked me through the process. It was then that I realized that it was just as simple as sending cards, e-mails, gifts (if I wanted), donations (if I wanted), all those little things that, had I read the whole blog, rather than saying "I CAN'T HELP", I would have seen. I would have known THEN, that what they wanted and truly needed, was for ME, and YOU, to take the time to let someone with cancer or another debilitating disease know that "I AM HERE FOR YOU" and "I WANT TO CHEER YOU UP AND MAKE YOUR DAY BETTER". That's all!

Kindness, Caring, Support, Prayers..........it IS that SIMPLE! Please, won't you join me?

Welcome To Spirit Jump

Spirit Jump is a program that directly connects the gift giver with a person battling cancer. It was founded in November, 2008 by two young women who have both battled cancer.

Meaghan is a cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with end stage cancer with a 20% chance of survival in February of 2007. Like many cancer patients she experienced the horrors of chemotherapy, radiation and numerous surgeries. Today Meaghan is CANCER FREE and is thankful for all of the support of her family and friends who stood by her side through her cancer fight.

Stacy is currently fighting Stage IV Melanoma. Diagnosed, October, 2007, Stacy is still undergoing treatment and fighting this horrible battle.

The Mission of Spirit Jump

If you have a shop, artistic abilities or even an extra card in your drawer and you want to give it to a person in need, send us an email that you want to be a Spirit Jumper at spiritjumper@spiritjump.com We will then connect you directly with a person in need, or we can give you a list of names, a brief description of what their particular cancer battle is and you can choose. When the match is made, We’ll give you that persons mailing address and then it’s up to you to send the gift. It’s simple.

If you decide to be a Spirit Jumper you will be overwhelmed with the joy and warmth you feel when giving a gift. Additionally, every Spirit Jumper is welcome to write a post on our website and tell our many readers about your shop, blog or website. You may include links, photos and any information you want to be featured on the site. We encourage you to also include why you decided to donate, who you donated to and maybe even a photo of what you donated. This will be wonderful exposure for your shop, blog, website and you will be lifting someone’s spirit, WIN, WIN!

The way it works is easy:

1- You request to be a Jumper & provide us with any blog/site you may have. It does not matter if you do not have any blog or website.

2- We add you to our email distribution list of Jumpers.

3- We add any shop/website/blog you may have to the jumper directory.

4- Then just wait to get an email from Spirit Jump.

5- If you would like a list of suggestions for gifts email us and we will provide you with one. These are only suggestions & by no means the only types of things people enjoy.

6- If you would prefer to just donate an item/s without being added to our mailing list you can send items to Meaghan or Stacy at the following addresses. We will then forward those items on your behalf to various people who are in need of Spirit Jumps.

When You Get an Email From Spirit Jump:

1-When we receive the name of a person who is battling cancer or a debilitating disease & needs a SJ we send out an email to the SJ's.

2-The email is sent BLIND CC so that your email address is always protected and never compromised.

3-In the email you receive we will share a little about the person/people in need. Things like, name, age, type of cancer and sometimes a little about the person likes. Whatever they authorize us to share.

4- If you would like, and are able to, give that person a Jump you simply reply to our email letting us know you want to jump the persons spirits.

5-After getting your email we will reply by sending the mailing address to you.

6- Next you send the card/gift to the address we provided you with. If you could also send a quick emailing letting us know you did send something we would appreciate it.

7-If you would like to send us a picture of what you sent we would be happy to put it on the Spirt Jump website with a link to your shop/blog/website, if you have one. However, this is not necessary so please do not feel obligated to do so.

8-NEVER FEEL OBLIGATED TO REPLY TO OUR REQUESTS FOR JUMPERS! We keep track of who get jumps and make sure each person gets plenty. This way you do not have to feel "guilty" or worry that the person isn't getting something to lift their spirits. We only want you to send Jumps when you can.

9-NOTHING IS TOO SMALL! You can send a simple handmade or store bought card, a book, blanket, movie.....whatever you would like.

10- Many people mention that they are not “crafty” please do not let that discourage you from participating. If you are looking for something to purchase please consider visiting one of the many Spirit Jumpers shops listed on our website under “Jumpers”. The shops with an * next to them will give Spirit Jumpers discounts and send the gift directly to the person needing a jump with a personalized card from you. Just let them know you are part of Spirit Jump and purchasing a gift as a Spirit Jump.

After You Send a Spirit Jump:

1-This is a one time thing, you are not "adopting" the person in need. This is what makes us a little different from the other cancer charities out there that send gifts.

2- You can send one gift or if you want you can send a gift each week. Its really up to you.

3-When we receive updates on the people who have received jumps we will either email you or post it on www.spiritjump.com

4- You do not have to send the gift/card immediately. Take your time and never feel rushed. A spirit jump works no matter what day it is.

If You No Longer Want to Receive E-mails From Us

1- No problem. Just send us an email saying you would like to be removed as a Spirit Jumper. If at a later time you wish to join again just send us an email.

2- Please keep in mind that although you receive emails you are never expected to respond and we only ask you do so when you can. Because of this it is not necessary for you to sign up or be removed unless you really don’t want to get our emails any longer.

3- We understand that it can be upsetting to get emails about so many people who are suffering. But please keep in mind that your small tokens of support really do make a HUGE difference in these peoples lives.

If You Know Someone In Need:

1- If you know someone who is batting cancer, another debilitating disease, struggling to support someone through an illness or has recently lost a loved one please contact us.

2- The only requirement for receiving a Spirit Jump is that the person must agree to it and be comfortable with us sharing their mailing address. Some people will actually get a P.O Box for the purpose of receiving their Spirit Jumps.

3- We only ask the person in need to share whatever information they feel comfortable with. There is no requirement that they allow us to share the type of cancer they have, treatments they are undergoing etc....We only share what the person feels comfortable sharing.

4- Just send us an email spiritjumper@spiritjump.com with Need A Jump in the subject line and we will do everything we can to help.

One Last Requirement:

1- Due to the strict HIPAA regulations we are required to keep a record of the Spirit Jump matches we make between our Jumpers and our Patients. The only additional information we need from you is your contact information - Name, Address, City, State, Zip, and Email, as well as your own personal blog/website/etsy site etc., if you happen to have one.

Hello, my friends!

I haven't found much serenity the last few days. The battle with Workers Comp is becoming "quite a challenge". But, I am sticking with my Serene Moments, so I will give you what I do have.

This afternoon I received a text message from my boyfriend, Ollie's, daughter. She was letting me know that his grand-daughter, Maggie, was playing her first baseball game this afternoon.
Now Maggie is the youngest of his 5 grandbabies. She is 7. She has beautiful curly hair...
Well, take a look at her:

What's even better is that Maggie reminds me so much of myself when I was little. She wants to be a boy! When she was really little, she would tell everyone that she was a boy! HeeHee It was so cute!
Maggie loves the outdoors: fishing, playing ball...she even got mad Christmas before last when Ollie got his grandson a gun and took him squirrel hunting. She sulled up until I promised we would buy her a gun, when she gets older, and take her hunting, too. Now, she has girlie stuff, of course people still buy it for her, but she loves camo and other "boy type" clothes. I was the exact same. I would stay outside all day, exploring in the woods and such. If my Dad and brothers were going hunting, fishing, hiking, whatever....I was right there, hair tucked under my ball cap and gear in hand.
I knew the rules, too. You kill it, you clean it! Squirrel, rabbit, fish.....I cleaned them all. Didn't care one bit.
I suspect that Maggie would do the same, if given the chance. Maggie's Momma is girlie, so we have to kind of "persuade" her on some things.
Anyway, I turned out "fairly" okay, so I know Maggie will, too. She's my little buddy and she keeps me in check.

I had one of my SERENE MOMENTS this weekend!

With my boyfriend, Ollie, working in Wisconsin, I ventured to his house to check on everything, and to get away. Ollie lives in a cabin on the river.
I took along "my son's" brindle boxer, Tiger.
Saturday, RAIN.
You know, something about being in a cabin at the river, I just really didn't care that it was raining. I kicked back on the couch with Tiger lying beside me and caught up on a little bit of NOTHING!
Sunday starts with lots of sunshine, but cool and windy! Again, something about the surroundings made me just not care.
I loaded up Tiger and took a drive along the river, stopping at homes of my friends to see how things were coming along. There's still a massive clean up going on since the big ice storm in January.
Tiger and I stopped several times and just enjoyed the river. It has changed so much since the two floods last year.
Lucky for me, I remembered my camera. I have one of those old fashion ones that takes film. I took several pictures of the river and will be posting them soon!
Tiger and I spent the rest of the day just hanging out and enjoying the sunshine.
I'll be returning this coming weekend. Ollie will be in for a couple of days and then will be returning to the job in Wisconsin.
I am really ready to see him.

I am sorry to have neglected my blog for a few days. I am quite busy trying to get ready for the Taste of Home Cooking School. It is on April 2nd and I have reserved a booth for my candle business. They are expecting an attendance of 2,000!
I have been busy buying up product for the show, but, even more time consuming, has been getting my information cards with coupon and scent sample ready for the gift bags. It really takes quite some time to get 2,000 ready.
I do appreciate your patience.
I try to use this as my personal blog, keeping my business information to the side so that it is your choice if you would like to see it. It is where I "advertise", so to speak, by telling about the business and things related to it.

I thought it was time for a change of scenery! How do you like it?

The first day of Spring is coming up fast. I am so excited! Each year, I set about looking for the perfect plants. I have my favorites, but I am always looking for something new. Last year, I found several flowers that I loved. It was the first year that I had a large spot and lots of time on my hands, so I just kept buying flowers. Of course, with my hip injury, I couldn't plant them, so I would have Cody or Ollie put them in the ground for me. I babied them, most every day and, I must say, it paid off. I had beautiful flower beds.
This year, I have started a few plants indoors. I plan on ordering some and then, it's off to the local nursery. There's a wonderful nursery, not far from my home, that has a huge selection of flowers. The people are friendly and "glad to have you". The plants are well taken care of and healthy.
I just can't wait to get started!

Well, they say all good things must come to an end and, this evening is that time. The high temperatures are gone and nowhere to be seen in the 7 day forecast. I knew, this early in the year, it was inevitable. The rain and wind has moved in and the temperatures are dropping into the 40's (day) and 30's (night)and will beginning raising some by the weekend. I haven't given up on fishing, yet. We have a trip to the lake in the works for this weekend and as long as the temps aren't freezing and the winds stay "reasonable", we should be able to go.
Sounds as if the wind may be dying down, if so, it'll be a great night for sleep. The only thing better than rain when you're sleeping, is rain on a metal roof when you're sleeping. It lulls you right into dream world.

I spent the day doing a little spring cleaning. Funny how things can just accumulate over time. Of course, since getting hurt, I can't do some of the most simple things anymore. I have to kind of work in spurts, but I get it done. I have to keep things straight or I will lose my sanity and will not be able to RELAX and ENJOY all my SERENE MOMENTS!

Hello! Another wonderful day! We hit about 80 again, but darn that wind! I am itching to go fishing and I hate to wait!

So, Ollie has made it to Milwaukee and is all settled in. I had to tease him: it was 34 degrees and dropping with plenty of lake effect snow. He wanted to turn around and come back! The joys of traveling jobs.

I'm still waiting for that appointment with a neurologist....I guess I'm about as good as I can be. I do have my spirits back up some, even though my "cheerleader" is gone. (Lord, he's going to kill me for that one!)
I'm generally pretty upbeat. I'm a bit of a jokester and it is rare to see me not smiling. I use people to keep me up! I concentrate on their needs and it pushes me through. I love to cut up and you never really know what I might say! Nothing bad, but I'll get your attention somehow!

I can't believe it's been such a beautiful day. 80 degrees, a little too windy, but wonderfully sunshiney! What a word, huh?
I'm am once again returned to the home life. The boyfriend officially heads back to Milwaukee tomorrow. He'll leave early morning. It's about a 10 1/2 hour drive on him. If things go well, he'll get to come back in April.
I'll be hanging with my son, Cody, oh, a shout out for him, he just landed a job!!! Anyway, we have Tiger, his brindle boxer that I take care of. So, hopefully the two will keep my occupied for the next few weeks.
We have rain moving in, so the next few warm days will probably be ruined. No fishing for Gena, dang it!

Hi, all! Sorry I left you hanging for a few days. I know I was missed, IMMENSELY! Hee!Hee! I was hanging with the boyfriend. He travels a lot for his job. He is a self-employed site coordinator. Anyway, he is working a job in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is in for a few days, so that's where I have been. With his job, you truly learn to appreciate your time together. He is gone months at a time. They try to schedule him days to come home, at least once a month, but it doesn't always work that way. I went 8 weeks without seeing him, once. He has about 10 or 12 weeks left on this job, then he will have, hopefully, a couple of weeks free, before starting the next job in Skylar, Nebraska (forgive me if I spelled it wrong). That job will last about a year, maybe longer, most likely longer.
So, how is everyone? Lets hear from you!

Having one of those days. You know, the ones where nothing goes right. A little more background, I have been off with a work injury for just over a year. Dealing with workers comp isn't fun, but, I have to say that they have done pretty good. My biggest nightmare has become my orthopaedic specialist. After he performed surgery on my hip, I started having major pain. He says the hip is fine now, but, to me, it still hurts. Since surgery, the pain has moved into the back, down the leg, all the way into my foot. I have a lot of numbness, too. My ortho is supposed to be setting up an appointment with a neurologist. I was in his office on Feb. 18. I have tried to be patient. I realize that it is hard to locate a neurologist that takes workers comp, but I located one for them, was still waiting...Here it is, 2 weeks since the appointment, still nothing. I start calling EVERYBODY only to find out that the doctor's office hasn't even requested approval with workers comp, much less tried to set up an appointment with the neurologist. They put a note on my account saying they were waiting for approval. My workers comp case manager was pretty upset with that. I spoke with her last week and she was waiting for the paperwork and referal, too. My workers comp case manager is pretty upset, as well. What do you do? I am literally at their mercy and growing worse every day. Plus, the neurologist is already booked up to the end of April. I am so frustrated.
This is not my "Relax and Enjoy all your Serene Moments", moment. I guess we all have our days.
I am so ready to get my life back. At 39, I'm not ready to give up yet. I have always been active, a real outdoorsy type, GARDENING, hunting, fishing, just enjoying the outdoors.
I'M COMING BACK!!! DON'T GIVE UP ON ME YET!!!

Man, the snow just keeps falling! I am so ready for Spring! We were teased with a 65 degree day, followed by a 74 degree day, now, we have about 4 or 5 inches of snow on the ground and it's still falling! It is sooo beautiful, but I'm ready for flowers and trees in bloom. I've already started some flowers and vegetables indoors!

So, I just want to introduce myself now that I am beyond the initial shock of actually starting a blog.
My name is Gena, which is actually my nickname. No one can pronounce my "official" name properly so.... I have found that I seem to have universal nickname, "Lil' Bit". I have met a lot of people and seem to get tagged with it more than anything. It may be my size......6 foot, just kidding! I am 5'1".
I am a single parent (16 years) of a super, wonderful son, Cody! He is 18. The only real, true love of my life.
I have a boyfriend, 3 1/2 years, Ollie. Not a typo. He's pretty wonderful, too. He has the rest of my heart.
I come from a large family. I have 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 9 nephews, 4 nieces, 2 niece-in-laws, 1 great nephew and 4 great nieces. And, I must say, I am the favorite to them all! Hee!Hee! Hey, it's my blog, I can say anything I want!
